This Lent, Capel United Church invites you to join us for our "Pilgrim" course as we journey together toward Easter. Our focus this year is Holy Communion (the Lord’s Supper), exploring how this sacred meal defines our identity and our future.
From the Desert to the Table: Our Biblical Roots
To understand Holy Communion, we must look back to the Old Testament and the formative experience of the people of Israel. Just as God provided for His people as He led them out of slavery in Egypt, He continues to provide for us today.
Provision in the Wilderness: We will reflect on how God fed the Israelites with manna from heaven and water from the rock during their journey through the desert toward the Promised Land.
The Passover Foundation: We see how the first command of the Passover became the setting for Jesus’ own Last Supper, transforming a meal of liberation from Egypt into a meal of universal salvation.
Our Spiritual Journey: Like the Israelites, we are a "pilgrim people." The bread and wine sustain us on our own journey through the "wilderness" of this life as we look toward the ultimate Promised Land—the return of Christ.
What to Expect
Each week each session is designed to be prayerful, communal, and thought-provoking. We aren't just reading a textbook; we are listening for God’s voice. Every Wednesday, our time together will include:
Joint Scripture Reading: We will read key passages of the Bible aloud together.
Group Reflection: We will spend time sharing our thoughts and reflections on these passages, learning from one another’s insights and experiences.
Deepening Worship: By understanding the "why" behind our worship, we find ourselves more closely united in the "how" of our daily Christian lives.
Whatever your understanding of how Jesus is present at the Table, you are welcome. Let us join together in the great hope and anticipation of the Lord’s return.
