In Georgian England, only cathedrals and large town churches had organs. Instead, organs were often found in large country houses where they provided entertainment for social occasions. This recital attempts to recreate the sort of entertainment that might have accompanied a Georgian English tea party. Any musical gathering in eighteenth-century England would have included the music of Handel, and two selections from a contemporary keyboard arrangement of the Water Music will be at the heart of this recital. There will also be some music that the tea party guests would have enjoyed as antiqarian, along with some up-to-the-minute music by the Wesley family. For all this, the organ at Tudeley is ideally suited.
Do come along and hear the music of a tea party! Read the full programme here.
