Sonya Gale studied Classics at Oxford University and then Law at Manchester Polytechnic (as it then was), which complemented each other nicely. After practising as a solicitor for 18 years, she decided to return to the more exciting and relevant world of Classics, and now teaches at a secondary school.

She is married to Philip and they have one daughter, Rebecca. Sonya enjoys music, drama and playing scrabble and chess with young people. She sometimes enjoys answering her daughter’s awkward questions (“If the Church is God’s house, where’s the bedroom?” being one of the easier ones). She believes that children can have their own deeply-felt and distinctive faith in God from a very early age; but even if they don’t, what they learn in Church can bear fruit much later in life.
