Pamela Ive Deacon

Pamela was born and grew up in Plymouth, Devon in a naval family. (Not Portsmouth!) Apart from a three year break for teacher training in Bedford, she continued to live and work in Devon and Cornwall.
She felt God calling her to ordained ministry and, the church having confirmed that vocation, she went off to Wycliffe Hall, Oxford which was providential as it was here that she met Jeremy, marrying him in 1991, the year after her ordination.
Pamela served her title (was a curate) in Ivybridge and Harford on the edge of Dartmoor and then moved to Abbotskerswell, Devon where Jeremy was Priest in Charge. During this time their two sons (now teenagers) were born.
When Jeremy moved to this post in Kent, in February 1999, Pamela came too but was not licensed to work in the church here until later in the year. Since then she has worked as Parish Deacon.
Parish Deacon means Pamela is not an ordained priest, but feels that God has called her to be a Distinctive Deacon: this means that she works mostly in pastoral and administrative areas but does not celebrate Holy Communion. Both Jeremy and Pamela are part time, each working half time. Their day off is Friday when they enjoy walking in the beautiful countryside of Kent and Sussex, but she does miss Dartmoor and especially the Devonian coast.
Pamela is definitely not a member of Facebook but is a member of Ravelry, a web knitting community, as she has rediscovered the joys of knitting over the past few years – particularly socks!
